Should You Fly, Drive, or Take the Train?

Posted by webmaster | Articles | Saturday 1 November 2008 4:09 pm

The holidays are coming. It is that time of the year that we start planning on vacation time to see loved ones. Should you fly, drive, or take the train?

Comfort and relaxation should be the top of your priority list when going on a vacation. Flying is definitely more expensive as airlines charge for every little thing such as extra baggage and the weight of your baggage. Driving to your destination is the next best option. It is relaxing in the sense you can enjoy the beauty that our country has to offer. However, given the state of the economy, it can get pretty pricey. It is best to keep the driving to medium range trips such as from Fort Lauderdale to Orlando. For longer trips, taking the train is the best option. Taking a train ride from Fort Lauderdale to Lynchburg, Virginia ends up being a very relaxing and stress free ride.

Should I Drive or Take The Train

Posted by webmaster | Articles | Saturday 1 November 2008 3:51 pm
I usually catch the train to work, then on class nights ride the train up to the university from work. Should I leave my car here at work and take the train to class, or drive to class? I don’t have a parking permit on campus, and its a $10 ticket if they catch you. But the train goes by every 20 minutes, and if I just miss one, I have to hang around for the next one. That, and it’ll be dark, and there are weirdos out late at night…

I live 65 miles from work and work is another 25 miles from the university. I only go to school 1 night a week and parking permits on campus for the night school is $85 a semester, at work its $30 a month and the train pass is free, company gives it to anyone who wants it. The drive to the train station is 40 miles one way. If I wanted to work near home, I’d have to work for McDonalds, and I didn’t spend $70,000 on my MBA degree to do that.

Safety first…….drive to class & buy yourself a parking permit. It will save you money in the long run!

Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council: Bradford Resident Convicted of Selling Unsafe Cars

Posted by webmaster | Salvage Industry News | Saturday 1 November 2008 2:40 pm

TORONTO, ONTARIO–(Marketwire - Oct. 10, 2008) - A Bradford man was convicted in Barrie Provincial Offences Court Tuesday, after posing as a car dealer and selling salvage-branded cars to unsuspecting consumers.

The conviction was the result of charges laid by the Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council (OMVIC) following an investigation into 24 cars imported by a man who was selling them from an unregistered (illegal) car dealership operated as “Millennium Imports and Services” at 4286 10 Side Road, Bradford.

This dealer imported the cars from salvage auctions in North Carolina, New York, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Maryland during the past year. All of these cars, which included late model Ford SUVs, Honda and Mazda, had been branded as “salvage” in the United States, and are not considered roadworthy. After being imported into Canada the titles were “washed” so that the salvage brand was removed to conceal the true history and condition of the vehicles. The vehicles were repaired cosmetically and sold to Ontario consumers.

Since these vehicles may be unsafe, the Ministry of Transportation will be contacting the consumer victims to suspend the vehicle permits until the cars have passed an official structural inspection.

Paul Troper, 40 years, of Bradford, plead guilty on October 07 2008 to 20 counts of selling cars without registration contrary to the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act. He was fined a total of $40,000 (plus victim surcharge).

You want to buy a salvaged car from a salvage lot in New York and resell auto parts on your website. What exactly do you need to obtain to do so? Do you need a permit?

You check the zoning first. Go to the city or county zoning. They will help you. They want new businesses. THen ask at the City Treasurer’s Office to see if you owe tax on your sales. The EPA will tell you over the phone if they need to check on you or not. you can do this.

You may also want to try visiting a repair shop in your state. For example http://www.autorepairshoplocator.com/New-York-Auto-Repai …. They can help you with your questions. Try vistiting multiple shops and compare what they say.

Are Auto Auction Cars Salvaged?

Posted by webmaster | Articles | Thursday 30 October 2008 11:38 pm

NO at auto auctions they will have all types of cars. Also there are many diffrent types of auction. Public auto auctions and Dealer only auctions. At public auctions dealers and private party sellers will sell thier cars to public buyers. Dealer auctions are for dealers only a dealer will sell his or her inventory to another dealer. The reason for this is simple if I sell Hondas and have a trade in that is a Chevy I can take that Chevy and sell it at dealer auction to some one that dose sell Chevy cars. At the Auction the information about the car is announced meaning if it was in collision or if it has frame damage or bad title or salvage title. If the miles on it are true or TMU meaning True milage unknown.

However, they very well could be. If they are, the title will show “SALVAGE” on it. You register it the same way you would any car, by transferring it into you name with the clear title you get when you buy it, and taking care of the registration at the same time.

Also for your information, salvage cars in the UK normally go to specialist salvage auctions only and you have to be a registered garage/trader to bid. Only cat D or C will be repairable anyway.

Auto Salvage Yards: How Do They Work

Posted by webmaster | Articles | Thursday 30 October 2008 11:38 pm

Elite Motor Cars, Inc. recently had an email from a customer that was looking to restore his car. He heard that if you go to a auto junk yard you can strip it for the parts yourself. This customer lives in New York City so he had no idea what he can do or where he can go to do somthing like this.

Let’s start out by saying we are not mechanically inclined when it comes to auto repair. Last month another individual had an accident with his Toyota RAV4 and he wasn’t sure how to fix it/. He tried to search the Internet for tips, but the procedures were too difficult for my skills. He ended up going to the dealership for the repairs. As you know, most dealerships tends to charge more than your mom and pop repair shops, but they’ve seen all sorts of situations (auto insurance problems, repair warranty issues, etc) and they seem to always find a way to help their customers. The best  thing to do is to try calling auto repair shops in New York area to see if they can help you. Here is a link to where you can find local auto body repair shops in your area: http://www.autorepairshoplocator.com/New-York-Auto-Repai ….

Is Buying A Salvage Car Worth it?

Posted by webmaster | Articles | Thursday 30 October 2008 11:37 pm

Are you thinking of buying a salvage car?  As many people know, there are some Auto mechanics who say that they can fix your car for $2000.  Can you buy a 2006 Jaguar Xtype 45,000 miles with minor front end collision salvage title for about $5000? Is it worth the risk?  So basicly you can get a great car for about $7000 with low miles rather then buying a used clean title car with about 100,000+ miles.

There are advantages and disadvantages to every decision. Some of the disadvantages include not being able to get full insurance on the salvage vehicle, the steering will never feel right, the car will “track” funny. However, the low price makes it acceptable.

To salvage a vehicle, the insurance company feels that the vehicle is not worth the money to fix it. That being said, minor front end damage to a Jaguar would not be the reason to salvage. There is more to the story and the damage. To make the vehicle roadworthy and pass any DMV inspections may cost you way more than $7000.

If you insure the vehicle with collision you wont get much for it if it’s totaled because it has a salvaged title. Also, most banks will not finance a salvage title vehicle. So if you need to finance a vehicle this may not be an option for you. Many salvage yards do not offer financing for this simple reason.
